Commentary regarding the Explanatory Memorandum to the Ruler's Decree No.61 of 2009

The global community has been in the grips of an economic crisis which has resulted in a significant increase in the number of cases which are being commenced in local courts.  One strategy which has been adopted by the Dubai Government to try and ease the strain on its courts is to establish special judicial committees which are granted exclusive jurisdiction to hear and determine cases which involve either a common issue or a common entity.

A new era of Dispute Resolution in the UAE?

A new Federal Arbitration Law for the UAE came a step closer with the recent publication by the Ministry of Economy of a consultation draft of the law.  This new law is intended to replace the provisions in the UAE's Civil Procedure Code which currently govern arbitrations conducted under UAE procedural law.

Abu Dhabi's Middle Income Rental Housing Initiative

In recognition of the need for affordable housing catering for the middle-income bracket of Abu Dhabi's population and in support on the Capital 2030 Plan, the Abu Dhabi Urban Planning Council have very recently announced a new policy which is expected to be in force from this month.  This policy will have a significant impact on Abu Dhabi's developers, the housing market and general public.
